Collection: Hand Pans

The SATORI twenty-two inch steel handpan, in copper, silver and brown finishes.

A handpan is two steel shells joined at the rim, with a central low note hammered into the top and a ring of tuned fields around it. Struck lightly with the fingers or the pads of the hands, each field gives a clear, sustaining note with a long tail, and the whole instrument is tuned to one scale, so anything played on it fits together.

It is played resting on the lap or on a stand, and it needs no technique to start. That combination of an immediate sound and no wrong notes is why handpans became a fixture of sound baths, meditation sessions and outdoor playing.

The instrument is heavy enough and resonant enough to fill a room on its own. A padded bag sized for a twenty-two inch handpan is stocked separately.

Smaller steel tongue drums, which work on the same tuned principle in a lighter and more portable form, are stocked in their own collection.
