REMO paddle drums, single-headed drums fixed to a handle.

The player holds the drum in one hand and strikes it with a mallet in the other, which means nothing has to be set down, held between the knees or carried on a strap. A group can stand, walk, turn and play at the same time, which is why paddle drums turn up in movement classes, parades and sessions where people are not seated in a circle.

They are also the easiest drum to hand to someone with limited grip or reach. The drum comes to the hand rather than the other way around, and a seated participant can play one held at any angle.

Two sizes are stocked singly, and matched pairs put a smaller drum with a larger one, so a single player has a high and a low voice, or two players each take one.
