The GMP AirDrum djembe line, in rope-tuned and lug-tuned models and as three-piece nesting sets.

An AirDrum is a composite djembe with a vent cut into the base. The vent is what makes it unusual: on a normal djembe the sound escapes only through the open bottom, so laying the drum flat on the floor chokes it. The vent gives the air another way out, which means the drum keeps its projection and its bass even when a young player rests it on the ground rather than tilting it on a stand or between their knees.

Heads are fibreskin, a synthetic material that holds pitch through humidity changes. Combined with the composite shell, that makes these drums about as weather-indifferent as a djembe gets, indoors or out.

Rope-tuned models use traditional cord lacing. Tunable models use lugs and a key, which is quicker for anyone unfamiliar with rope tuning.

Colours run through Ocean Blue, Baliku Chocolate, Abstract Orange, Caribbean and Gold and Black. The nesting sets hold three drums that stack inside each other, which is the practical answer when three drums have to live in the space of one.
