AULOS is the recorder most Canadian school programs are built around, and the reason is consistency. The instruments are moulded from ABS resin to close tolerances, so one soprano from a class set plays in tune with the next, which is the thing that actually determines whether thirty students sound like an ensemble.

Both fingering systems are stocked. German fingering simplifies the note F so a beginner reaches a first scale sooner. Baroque, also called English, asks for a cross-fingering on F and stays consistent from there upward, and it is what most method books and ensemble parts are written for. Match whatever your school already owns.

Sizes run sopranino, soprano, alto, tenor and bass. One-piece sopranos have nothing to misalign in a class set. Two and three-piece models let the foot joint rotate for a smaller hand and the head pull out to tune to a group. Tenors are available with and without keys, and the bass models come with a bocal.

The Haka series takes its shape from a historical instrument and comes in plain and wood-grain finishes.
