Tubolos from Groove Masters Percussion, in stackable and lug-tuned versions, singly and in three-piece sets.

A tubolo is a straight-sided tube drum with a single head. Because the shell does not flare like a djembe, the note is higher, drier and shorter, and it cuts through a group without adding to the low end. In a circle where several people already have djembes, a tubolo is what lets a part be heard.

Stackable tubolos nest inside each other, so three drums store in the footprint of one. That is the practical answer for a classroom without cupboard space, and there is a nine inch stackable add-on for extending a set you already own.

Lug-tuned tubolos are tightened with a key, so pitch can be set deliberately and reset when the head settles. Three sizes are stocked in each style, singly or as three-piece sets that give a low, middle and high voice.

Shells are composite and heads are fibreskin, which means the tuning holds through damp halls and dry winter classrooms. Finishes are Ocean Blue, Baliku Chocolate, Abstract Orange, Caribbean and Gold and Black.
