Alto recorders from AULOS and EMUS, pitched a fourth below the soprano. This is the usual second recorder a program adds once students are secure on soprano, and it is the size most solo and consort repertoire is written for.
The alto reads differently from the soprano, which is the part students find hardest. It is pitched in F rather than C, so the same written note calls for a different fingering, and players have to learn a second set of patterns rather than transfer the first.
Almost everything here is Baroque or English fingering, which is what alto repertoire assumes. One EMUS model is available in German fingering for programs that carry German fingering throughout.
The AULOS Haka alto is modelled on a historical instrument and comes in plain and wood-grain finish. The multi-piece alto splits into more sections than a standard instrument, which suits players who need a different hand position.
Alto cleaning rods and thumb rests are sized differently from soprano and are stocked separately.
