Collection: Guitar Strings

Strings for classical and acoustic guitars, in nylon and steel.

The first thing to get right is which of the two your guitar takes, because it is not interchangeable. Classical guitars are built for nylon and cannot take steel strings, since the tension is roughly double and a steel set on a classical guitar will pull the bridge off or warp the neck. Steel-string acoustics are built for that tension and sound thin and lifeless with nylon on them. If the bridge has six holes with pegs it is a steel-string. If the strings are tied to a slotted bridge, it is a classical.

For classical guitars we stock a nylon set that can also be bought as individual strings, which is what you want for a class set where students break one at a time, and Augustine Classic in low tension, which is easier on the fingers and suits younger players.

For steel-string acoustics we stock Elixir Nanoweb phosphor bronze in light 12-53 and medium 13-56. The Nanoweb coating keeps the strings from going dull as quickly, which is worth it on an instrument that gets played by a lot of different hands.

A string winder is stocked in guitar accessories.
