Collection: Triangles

Triangles from SUZUKI, EMUS and NINO, in a range of sizes, with strikers and holders stocked separately.

A triangle is a bent steel rod struck with a metal beater, and what makes it useful is that the note rings on for a long time and sits above everything else in the room without being loud. In a group of thirty students, a single triangle marking the end of a phrase is audible over all of it.

The shape matters. Because the triangle is not closed, it has no fundamental pitch, which is why it fits over any chord and never sounds wrong. That is also why it is one of the few instruments in a classroom that can be handed to a student with no instruction at all.

Two things make the difference between a good triangle sound and a bad one. It has to hang free from its holder rather than being gripped, or the ring is killed on contact, and it should be struck on the side rather than the corner.

Sizes here run from a four inch NINO up through five, six and eight inch models from EMUS and SUZUKI. Larger triangles ring longer and lower.
